PTA COMMITTEES

PTA committees cover enrichment, fundraising, and volunteering in every corner of the school.  Here's a breakdown of what we do:

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

Apple Core Team - 5th Grade Year Book

Each year the PTA organizes and publishes a yearbook for all 5th graders that memorializes the student's

time spent at Cider Mill.

Bingo Night

Family Bingo Night is held on a weeknight in the late Fall or early Winter.

Children's Enrichment

The PTA sponsors fun and educational experiences for each grade level.

Field Day

3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Field Days are an exciting fun tradition at Cider Mill School. Usually held on the last half-days of the school year, each grade participates in field events, ranging from sack races to the tug-o-war. Afterwards, refreshments are enjoyed by all.

Fun Night

Fun Night is just that - a fun night where students play games together in a friendly environment. Each grade has a separate fun night where students rotate through different activities run by parent volunteers. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade fun nights take place at Cider Mill. Fifth grade fun night takes place at the Wilton YMCA.

Great Books

Each January for eight weeks, interested students participate in a book club. Students read assigned books and then meet during lunch to discuss and exchange their ideas.

Reflections  - Within Reach?

National art competition run by the PTA.  The PTA is once again running our annual Reflections competition!  The theme this year is "Within Reach?”  We are calling all talented writers, musicians, dancers, artists and photographers to enter the competition. Entrants can create a piece of dance choreography, take a photograph, paint a picture or create a picture using other media. They can produce a film or compose a piece of music; they can write a story or a poem. The competition takes place throughout the Wilton School District and winners will go on to compete with other entrants across the state as well.  A fantastic opportunity for your young artist to achieve recognition!

River Study

Part of the 3rd and 5th Grade Science Program, the River Study introduces students to our neighboring Norwalk River system. Trained parent volunteers and WHS students lead small groups on river walks and discuss the habitats of the animal community.

School Store

Twice a week during lunchtime, students have the opportunity to buy pencils, erasers, pens and other fun items.  Volunteers serve in the store.   All profits from the store go to the Cider Mill Activity Fund.

Turkey Trot

We mark out the course, encourage the students along the way and hand out the water at the end of this fun run.  All proceeds benefit Wilton Food Pantry in the run up to Thanksgiving.

Visiting Author

The PTA covers all the costs of bringing world class authors to talk to our students each year.  Recent visiting authors have been Sarah Weeks, Kate Klise and Seymour Simon.

World Languages

Throughout the year, many activities are planned to enrich the students' experience in the Spanish and French language and culture.  Students start by practicing being polite asking for fruit, then celebrate Bûches de Noël in December, Los Tres Reyes (la Fête des Rois) in January and World Languages Games in April.  The PTA assists the world language department in organizing these celebrations.

Zero Waste Initiative

Cider Mill School will soon be part of the Zero Waste Initiative in which garbage in the cafeteria is disposed of according to new recycling and compost guidelines. This means of garbage disposal is already taking place at Miller-Driscoll, Middlebrook and Wilton High School. Volunteers are needed to work weekly or bi-weekly shifts in the cafeteria. Volunteers will receive training on guiding the students in regards to waste going into the proper receptacle.
